The Tanger Med port complex is preparing for one of the major peaks of the return phase of Marhaba 2026, with more than 2.7 million Moroccans residing abroad already received since the launch of the operation and traffic expected to be heavily concentrated between August 25 and 29.

Tanger Med is strengthening its operational arrangements ahead of the peak return period for Moroccans residing abroad. The period from August 25 to 29 is expected to concentrate a significant share of travelers returning to Europe after the summer season. The port authority recommends that travelers with some flexibility avoid these five days in order to limit waiting times before boarding.

Since the beginning of Marhaba 2026, more than 2.7 million Moroccans residing abroad have already passed through the various maritime entry points. Tanger Med is the main gateway for the operation. The complex has an annual capacity of several million passengers and simultaneously plays a key role in international freight transport. The port is also one of the world’s leading container transshipment hubs. Its geographical position near the Strait of Gibraltar enables it to capture flows between the Atlantic, Mediterranean, Europe and Africa.

Tanger Med, a driver of industrial competitiveness

The performance recorded during Marhaba represents both a logistical and operational challenge, particularly in terms of passenger and vehicle handling, inspections, boarding operations and coordination with shipping companies. These flows are particularly strategic given Tanger Med’s direct connection to the Kingdom’s northern industrial zones. Automotive, equipment, agribusiness, textiles and industrial goods rely heavily on the complex’s port and logistics infrastructure.

Data on new-vehicle traffic through Moroccan ports further confirms this importance. It reached 357,634 units in the first half of 2026, an increase of 12.9%, highlighting the growing role of the port system in supporting national industry, particularly the automotive sector.

Tanger Med’s strategic position therefore extends far beyond passenger transport. The complex has become a key pillar of Morocco’s external competitiveness and a strategic driver of the Kingdom’s logistics and industrial sovereignty.
