Deutsche Telekom launches AI-powered call translation

At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Deutsche Telekom unveiled a new artificial intelligence solution designed for mobile communications. Called the Magenta AI Call Assistant, the voice-based tool aims to transform phone calls by enabling real-time translation during conversations.

The German telecom group, regarded as Europe’s leading operator and one of the largest worldwide, said the assistant operates directly through the mobile network. Users can activate the AI chatbot during a call using a simple voice command, without the need to download a dedicated application.

Headquartered in Bonn, the company stressed that the service does not require a latest-generation smartphone. A standard mobile phone is sufficient to access the feature. Within the next twelve months, the assistant is expected to offer instant translation in up to 50 languages.

Beyond translation, the voice assistant will be able to provide practical information, including flight reservations and weather updates. It is also set to feature partially autonomous capabilities, such as helping users schedule appointments.

Deutsche Telekom also assured that the assistant will only activate upon explicit voice command. Conversation recordings will be deleted immediately after transmission, in compliance with data protection regulations.
