Paris: Mr. Akhannouch Represents HM the King at Second International Nuclear Energy Summit

The second International Nuclear Energy Summit, organized at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron in partnership with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), opened on Tuesday in Paris. Moroccan Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, represented His Majesty King Mohammed VI at the summit.

The Moroccan delegation also includes Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, Director-General of the Moroccan Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security Agency (AMSSNuR), Saïd Mouline, and Morocco’s Ambassador to France, Samira Sitail.

Following the inaugural edition held in Brussels in March 2024, this high-level gathering brings together heads of state and government, international organization leaders, financial institutions, industrial players, and experts to discuss the role of civil nuclear energy in addressing global energy and climate challenges.

Held against the backdrop of rising electricity demand and accelerated decarbonization strategies, the summit seeks to establish itself as a key political forum for civil nuclear development, complementing IAEA technical platforms and ahead of several major 2026 international milestones, including the review conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

Organizers note that the summit provides an opportunity to reaffirm nuclear energy’s role in ensuring energy security, facilitating the transition to low-carbon electricity, and supporting industrial development. Beyond political and technical discussions, the summit aims to foster concrete initiatives and partnerships among states, international organizations, financial institutions, and industrial actors to promote safe, sustainable civil nuclear energy aligned with global climate objectives.
