The Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, held talks in Doha with his counterpart from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Azam Nazeer Tarar, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the legal and judicial fields and exchanging views on issues of common interest.

Held on the sidelines of the Doha Legal Forum, the meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the strength of relations between Morocco and Pakistan, characterized by mutual respect and ongoing coordination, particularly in the field of justice, according to a statement from the Ministry of Justice.

Both sides stressed the importance of developing and modernizing mechanisms of legal and judicial cooperation in order to keep pace with global legislative and technological changes, while contributing to the strengthening of the rule of law and the consolidation of judicial independence.

On this occasion, Mr. Ouahbi noted that Morocco’s participation in the Doha Legal Forum forms part of the Kingdom’s strategic orientation toward openness to its international environment, strengthening cooperation with brotherly and friendly countries, and sharing expertise and best practices in judicial system reform, in line with the major reform initiatives underway in Morocco’s justice sector.

Discussions also focused on ways to enhance Moroccan-Pakistani cooperation in judicial training, the exchange of expertise in legislative modernization, and the development of court management mechanisms. The two ministers also discussed sharing experiences related to alternative dispute resolution methods, particularly arbitration and mediation, as essential tools for strengthening legal certainty and improving the business climate.

In this context, both officials emphasized the need to accompany these developments with a balanced legislative framework that reconciles efficiency and innovation while ensuring the protection of rights and freedoms and upholding the principles of transparency and accountability.

The talks further highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation in combating transnational crime, including terrorism, money laundering, and financial crimes, through the exchange of expertise and information and the development of mutual legal assistance mechanisms, in full respect of national legislations and the legal sovereignty of each country.

For his part, the Pakistani Minister of Justice praised the reforms undertaken in Morocco’s justice sector, commending the Moroccan experience in modernizing the judicial system and strengthening judicial governance. He reaffirmed his country’s willingness to consolidate cooperation with Morocco in all justice-related fields, in the service of shared interests and legal stability.

The two ministers finally reiterated their shared determination to continue strengthening legal and judicial cooperation between Morocco and Pakistan through intensified exchanges of visits, the organization of technical meetings, and participation in international forums, with a view to establishing an effective partnership capable of meeting development requirements and global transformations.
