The provincial education authorities in Taounate, Morocco, have announced the temporary suspension of classes in all public and private schools from Thursday, February 5 to Saturday, February 7, 2026, as a precautionary measure in response to severe weather forecasts issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM). This decision aims to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school staff amid forecasts of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and potential flooding across the region.
According to an official statement, the suspension covers all levels of education throughout the province and was taken on the basis of the weather alerts and recommendations of the provincial vigilance committee in coordination with local authorities. The measure follows a period of inclement weather affecting northern Morocco, where authorities elsewhere including in Ksar El-Kebir, also suspended classes due to flood risks and dangerous conditions.
Education officials have emphasized that the decision is preventive, and that classes will resume once meteorological conditions improve and it is deemed safe to continue in‑person instruction. The Ministry of National Education has also activated remote learning platforms in some areas to help students continue their education during prolonged closures.
This exceptional closure reflects ongoing efforts by Moroccan authorities to respond proactively to severe weather events and protect communities, especially in regions at high risk of weather‑related hazards.
