Joint search operations conducted by the Royal Armed Forces and U.S. Forces have led to the recovery of the body of one of the two American soldiers reported missing since May 2 near a cliff in the Cap Draa area during the African Lion 2026 military exercise.
According to a statement issued by the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, the body was located and recovered at around 08:55 a.m. following coordinated efforts involving ground, maritime and aerial teams, alongside Civil Protection units.
Preliminary findings confirmed the identity of the deceased as Lieutenant Kendrick Lamont Key Jr.
The body was transported by helicopter to the morgue of Moulay El Hassan Military Hospital in Guelmim, in accordance with established procedures, pending repatriation.
Search and rescue operations are still ongoing to locate the second American soldier who has remained missing in the same area since May 2.
