Stellantis aims to make electric cars affordable with its future low-cost “E-Car”

Stellantis has announced the launch of its “E-Car” project, a new range of small electric vehicles described as innovative, affordable and designed specifically for the European market.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Franco-Italian-American automaker said the first E-Car models are expected to roll off production lines in 2028 at its Pomigliano d’Arco plant in Italy.

According to the group, the “E” in E-Car stands for European, Emotional, Electric and Ecological. The initiative aims to develop compact urban vehicles manufactured in Europe for European consumers.

Stellantis noted that the project has been recognized by the European Commission for its potential to support industrial innovation, employment and the faster adoption of fully electric vehicles.

The group’s CEO, Antonio Filosa, said European consumers are looking for the return of stylish small cars produced locally, while remaining affordable and environmentally friendly.

The automaker plans to launch several models under different brands within the group to meet growing demand in the compact electric vehicle segment.

By choosing the Pomigliano plant for production, Stellantis intends to rely on the site’s long-standing expertise in manufacturing some of Europe’s most iconic and affordable vehicles, including the Fiat Panda.

The future E-Car models are expected to feature innovative design and next-generation electric technologies developed with selected partners to improve affordability and speed up market launch.
