Morocco and the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic and trade cooperation during talks held in Moscow between Daniyar Imanaliev, Minister in charge of Integration and Macroeconomics at the EEC, and Morocco’s Ambassador to Russia, Lotfi Bouchaara.
The meeting focused on prospects for expanding relations between Morocco and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), as well as ways to boost trade and economic exchanges with the bloc’s member states, namely Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia.
During the discussions, Imanaliev highlighted Morocco’s potential to become a reliable strategic partner for the regional economic organization, emphasizing the significant opportunities for cooperation between the two sides.
According to the Eurasian Economic Commission, trade between Morocco and EAEU member countries maintained strong momentum in 2025, rising by 17% to exceed $2 billion.
The official also stressed the importance of the cooperation memorandum signed in Rabat in September 2017, describing it as a solid framework for deepening dialogue on economic and regulatory matters and expanding bilateral trade.
For his part, Bouchaara underscored Morocco’s strategic position as a gateway to African markets, highlighting the opportunities available to EAEU countries seeking to expand their presence across the continent through the Kingdom’s trade, logistics and investment platforms.
Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening sector-specific cooperation and organizing specialized consultations aimed at increasing information exchange and raising awareness among business communities about partnership opportunities.
The talks also addressed mechanisms to encourage greater private-sector involvement in advancing bilateral and regional economic relations.
The Morocco-EEC cooperation memorandum seeks to strengthen economic ties through increased and diversified trade flows, as well as improved market access. Morocco also benefits from preferential tariff arrangements within the EAEU system, allowing reduced or zero customs duties on certain Moroccan products exported to the bloc.
