Morocco and Indonesia’s East Java Province have agreed to strengthen their economic, academic, and cultural cooperation by fostering closer ties between business communities, higher education institutions, and public stakeholders, following talks held Tuesday in Surabaya.
During the meeting, Morocco’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Redouane Houssaini, and East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa reaffirmed the strength of Moroccan-Indonesian relations, built on a long-standing friendship, regular political dialogue, and shared values of moderation, tolerance, and South-South cooperation.
The two sides discussed ways to expand their partnership into new areas, including trade, investment, higher education, culture, and religious cooperation.
Ambassador Houssaini highlighted Morocco’s attractiveness to Indonesian investors, pointing to the Kingdom’s political stability, business-friendly environment, modern logistics infrastructure, and extensive network of international trade agreements, which reinforce its role as a gateway to African markets.
As part of these efforts, he proposed establishing a decentralized cooperation partnership between the city of Surabaya and Morocco’s Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, two major economic and port hubs with complementary strengths across several strategic sectors.
For her part, Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa expressed interest in Morocco’s experience in industrial development, regional governance, and the promotion of moderate Islam, while reaffirming her commitment to deepening relations with the Kingdom.
The two parties identified several priority sectors for future cooperation, including manufacturing, the automotive industry, logistics, infrastructure, digital technologies, smart cities, and agribusiness.
The meeting reflects Morocco and East Java’s shared determination to give new momentum to Morocco-Indonesia relations at the regional level through decentralized cooperation aimed at building lasting links between the economic, academic, and cultural communities of both countries.
