Tanzania is seeking to deepen its financial market by giving a greater role to collective investment vehicles. The two new funds launched by Zan Securities aim to raise a combined 10 billion Tanzanian shillings, with strategies ranging from regular income generation to long-term capital growth.
The initiative reflects a broader African effort to channel domestic savings more effectively into economic financing and reduce businesses’ reliance on bank lending.
The development of investment funds could also expand investment opportunities for individuals, provided that transparency, liquidity, financial information and investor protection are strengthened.
The challenge therefore goes beyond the 10 billion shillings target: it is about transforming domestic savings more effectively into productive capital to support economic growth.
