The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) has reached an important milestone in strengthening its financial credibility. On August 17, 2026, Moody’s upgraded its long-term rating from B2 to B1, with a stable outlook, reflecting its solvency, asset quality, capitalization and diversified funding sources.
The upgrade could enable the bank to raise funds on international markets under more competitive conditions to finance infrastructure, renewable energy, healthcare and private-sector development across West Africa.
The African Development Bank’s entry as EBID’s first institutional shareholder in June 2026 further strengthens its capital base and institutional credibility.
The challenge now goes beyond improving its rating: EBID aims to become a more powerful instrument for mobilizing capital to support the economic transformation of ECOWAS economies.
