The African Diaspora Becomes a New Source of Financing

Financing from the African diaspora is emerging as an increasingly important issue for African economies. At UBA, Anant Rao highlights the growing development of financial solutions designed for Africans living abroad.

Remittances from the diaspora already represent an important source of resources for several African economies. Beyond household consumption, these flows can contribute to investment, entrepreneurship and real estate financing.

African banks are therefore developing platforms and products tailored to this customer base. Digitalization is making it easier to transfer funds, access accounts and manage financial transactions remotely.

Mobilizing more African savings

The challenge is now to transform part of diaspora financial flows into resources directed toward the productive economy. SMEs, infrastructure, real estate, agriculture and digital services are among the sectors that could attract these funds.

This development could also strengthen economic ties between diaspora communities and their countries of origin while contributing to greater financial inclusion.
