Morocco is continuing to expand its automotive ecosystem with a new Akwel facility in Nouaceur. Following its El Jadida operation, the French automotive supplier is preparing a second industrial unit in the Casablanca-Settat region, dedicated to manufacturing metal mechanisms for the automotive industry. The project strengthens Morocco’s presence in higher-value-added automotive supply chains.
Akwel has acquired land in a Casablanca free zone to build the new facility. Initially planned to cover 7,500 square metres, the project’s footprint has been increased to 9,000 square metres. Site preparation work has already begun, according to the group’s 2026 half-year financial report, while commissioning remains scheduled for early 2027.
The facility will manufacture metal mechanisms and include cutting and assembly operations. It will complement the activities of AKWEL El Jadida Morocco and enable the group to strengthen its industrial footprint in Morocco.
New capacity for the automotive supply chain
In December 2025, Akwel established Akwel Casablanca Morocco, with share capital of €15 million, specifically to support this new facility. The choice of Nouaceur reflects the area’s dense automotive and industrial ecosystem, as well as its proximity to Casablanca’s logistics infrastructure.
Morocco’s automotive sector generated approximately MAD 196 billion in revenue in 2024 and supported more than 250,000 jobs. The arrival of a new facility specializing in metal mechanisms will broaden the range of components manufactured locally and strengthen capabilities in cutting, forming, assembly and quality control in line with international standards.
Akwel has not yet disclosed the amount of investment or the workforce expected at the new facility. At global level, the group generated €414.9 million in revenue in the first half of 2026. Its additional investment in Morocco is therefore supporting the expansion of its activities with automotive manufacturers and suppliers.
For Morocco’s industrial platform, the challenge now goes beyond attracting new factories. It is increasingly about deepening the industrial base, increasing local component production and moving the automotive value chain towards higher value-added activities. With Akwel and numerous other automotive suppliers, Morocco continues to consolidate its position as a major automotive industrial platform.
