The House of Representatives will hold a plenary session on Tuesday dedicated to the election of its new Speaker.
According to a statement by the President of the provisional bureau of the House of Representatives, the session will begin at 3:00 p.m. and will be held in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution and Article 48 of the House’s Rules of Procedure.
The election of the Speaker of the House of Representatives marks an important institutional step in the establishment of the leadership bodies of the first chamber of the Moroccan Parliament.
The Speaker oversees the proceedings of the House, ensures compliance with its Rules of Procedure, represents the institution before other branches of power, and chairs plenary sessions.
The House of Representatives also plays a central role in the legislative process, in overseeing the government’s action and in evaluating public policies. The Speaker also takes part in organizing Parliament’s work and in ensuring coordination between the two chambers.
