Trump Announces Immediate “Energy Ceasefire” Between Russia and Ukraine

US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday the immediate entry into force of an “energy ceasefire” in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

“Effective immediately, an ENERGY CEASEFIRE is in effect in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed. Do not violate it!”, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

However, the US president did not provide any further details on the terms of the agreement.

On Friday, Donald Trump had announced that he had negotiated with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, the delivery of large quantities of Russian diesel to the US and global markets.

“Russia will immediately supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel to the US and global market, another 500,000 tonnes in November, and 1,000,000 tonnes immediately thereafter. In addition, depending on the state of its refineries, Russia will rapidly deliver 3,000,000 tonnes of diesel,” he had written on Truth Social.

These announcements come amid a sharp rise in diesel prices in the United States, which have increased by more than 65% since the start of the war in the Middle East, weighing on several economic sectors, particularly agriculture and transport.

For its part, the US Department of the Treasury said it had granted provisional authorization for the placing of Russian diesel on the market.
