France–Morocco: French Justice Minister Visits Rabat to Bolster Cooperation in Fight Against Narcotrafficking

The French Minister of Justice, Gérald Darmanin, has arrived in Morocco for an official visit on February 2–3 aimed at strengthening judicial cooperation with Moroccan authorities, particularly in the fight against narcotrafficking and serious organized crime.

This mission marks another step in an intensified partnership between Paris and Rabat following a series of high-profile cooperative actions in recent months. French and Moroccan judicial and security services have worked closely on extraditions and investigations targeting major criminal networks.

In recent years, Moroccan authorities extradited several suspects to France in narcotrafficking and organized crime cases, illustrating the depth of bilateral judicial collaboration. Among these cases was the arrest and handover of Félix Bingui, suspected of leading a major crime clan with links to drug trafficking in Marseille.

During this visit, Darmanin is scheduled to meet with his Moroccan counterpart, Minister of Justice Abdellatif Ouahbi, to discuss further cooperation mechanisms, including judicial exchanges, mutual legal assistance, and strengthened action against transnational crime. An exchange with Morocco’s Minister of the Interior is also planned to complement discussions on security and criminal justice measures.

The visit reflects ongoing efforts by France and Morocco to deepen their strategic judicial and security partnership, reinforcing joint capacities to tackle narcotrafficking, organized crime, and other cross-border criminal threats affecting both countries.
