Morocco is officially participating for the first time in Gamescom, the world’s largest video game trade fair, whose 18th edition opened its doors Wednesday in Cologne, western Germany.
Morocco is represented by an institutional delegation and 11 Moroccan video game development studios, gathered within a 102-square-meter national pavilion. The participating studios are showcasing their creations to international publishers, investors and industry professionals.
Eight of the participating studios are winners of the Video Game Incubator program, launched by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication in partnership with the Embassy of France in Morocco. Three others were awarded in the “Game Preview Announcement” category at the Morocco Gaming Expo 2026.
Accelerating the internationalization of Morocco’s gaming industry
Morocco’s participation in Gamescom 2026 aims to accelerate the international expansion of national studios and facilitate their integration into global value chains in the video game industry.
The country’s presence at the event reflects ongoing efforts to support young talents and Moroccan companies in the sector while strengthening their access to international markets.
It follows the third edition of the Morocco Gaming Expo, held from May 20 to 24, 2026, in Rabat. The event attracted more than 80,000 visitors, with 24 countries represented, alongside 100 Moroccan exhibitors and 48 international investors.
Morocco aims to become an African gaming hub
Morocco’s presence in Cologne is part of the national strategy launched in 2021, with the ambition of making the Kingdom an African hub for the video game industry by 2032.
Through this strategy, Morocco seeks to develop national skills, support local studios and attract greater investment into a rapidly expanding sector.
Gamescom provides a strategic platform for increasing the international visibility of Morocco’s gaming ecosystem and establishing new partnerships with leading global players.
Organized jointly by Koelnmesse and game, the German video game industry association, Gamescom runs from August 26 to 30 in Cologne and online. According to the organizers, the 2026 edition brings together more than 1,600 exhibitors and features over 800 games, confirming Gamescom’s position as one of the world’s leading events for the video game industry.
