Chinese group Hailiang has completed the installation of the equipment for its first industrial production line at Tangier Tech, with an annual capacity of 50,000 tonnes. The line is now expected to become operational by the end of the third quarter of 2026, confirming Tangier’s growing appeal as an industrial platform serving the Moroccan, African and European markets.
The project is entering a decisive phase for the Tangier Tech industrial ecosystem. The equipment for the first production line has been installed and is currently undergoing technical adjustments and testing. Hailiang is therefore maintaining its target of starting operations during the third quarter of 2026, after the initial schedule had envisaged a launch during the second quarter. The information comes from Zhejiang Hailiang’s 2026 semi-annual report, published on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.
Copper Becomes a New Pillar of Chinese Industry in Morocco
The project is part of the development of the Hailiang Morocco New Material Technology Industrial Park, dedicated to the processing of copper and its alloys. With an initial announced capacity of 50,000 tonnes per year, the project goes beyond the simple establishment of a factory: it aims to create a regional industrial base integrated into a global value chain.
Tangier Tech has significant strategic advantages in this context, including its proximity to Europe, port infrastructure, logistical connectivity with Tanger Med and privileged access to African markets. Hailiang’s expansion is also taking place alongside the arrival of other Asian industrial companies in Morocco, particularly in automotive, batteries, advanced materials and electrical components.
This momentum confirms the gradual transformation of Morocco’s industrial positioning. The Kingdom is increasingly seeking to attract not only assembly companies, but also producers of intermediate materials that are essential to the new industrial value chains.
The next challenge will be to increase local integration, develop Moroccan suppliers and transform these investments into genuine industrial ecosystems.
