Morocco will be a highlight of the Mediterranean Season 2026, a major cultural event showcasing the richness and diversity of Mediterranean cultures, running from May 15 to October 31, 2026, in France.
Designed as a space for dialogue and cooperation, the event brings together artists, intellectuals, researchers, and civil society actors from around the Mediterranean. After a festive opening in Marseille from May 15–24, the Season will unfold across France and internationally, featuring key events in multiple Mediterranean countries.
The Moroccan segment will showcase the vitality of its artistic scene, the richness of its traditions, and the modernity of its contemporary expressions. The “Morocco & Mediterranean” weekend from October 29–31 at the Cité de la musique – Philharmonie de Paris will be a highlight, celebrating both traditional and contemporary music, with a central focus on women artists.
Key events include La Nuit Andalouse, led by Mohamed Briouel with prominent female vocalists, and Gnawa performances featuring Maâlam Abdelkébir Merchane and Hind Ennaira. The Mediterranean cultural diversity will be represented through dialogues among Andalusian, Amazigh, and Gnawa traditions, Aramaic chants, flamenco, and Greek and Italian folk traditions.
A photography exhibition of Gnawa musicians by Hassan Hajjaj, accompanied by a musical creation by Acid Arab, will also be presented. In Morocco, the Season will highlight creativity and cooperation in design and crafts, including the 9th Euro-Mediterranean Forum of Young Leaders in Essaouira.
French ministers Jean-Noël Barrot and Rachida Dati emphasized that the Season fosters intercultural dialogue and strengthens Mediterranean ties, particularly through youth and diasporas.
