Morocco–Finland: Strengthened Cooperation in the Service of Innovation and Stability

The Kingdom of Morocco is a key partner for Europe and for Finland at various levels, Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen said on Sunday in Rabat.

Speaking at a joint press briefing following her talks with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, the Finnish top diplomat stressed the strong and steadily growing ties between Rabat and Helsinki.

Valtonen noted that since Bourita’s visit to Finland in August 2024, bilateral relations have deepened significantly, creating new opportunities for cooperation. She highlighted promising prospects in trade and investment, particularly in artificial intelligence, information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure, and 5G deployment.

The discussions also covered several foreign policy and security issues, including developments in the Middle East, the Sahel and Sudan, as well as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, reflecting shared concerns over regional and global stability.

Furthermore, Valtonen stated that both sides welcomed the adoption of Resolution 2797 by the United Nations Security Council and reaffirmed their support for the efforts of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and his Personal Envoy aimed at reaching a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue.

The visit underscores the shared determination of Morocco and Finland to strengthen a strategic partnership based on dialogue, economic cooperation and coordination on major international issues.
