Strengthening cooperation between the cities of Dakhla and Dreux (France) in the fields of agriculture, aquaculture, and renewable energy was the focus of a meeting held on Saturday in Dakhla.
The meeting was chaired by the President of the Dakhla Municipal Council, Erragheb Hormatallah, and attended by the Mayor of Dreux, Pierre-Frédéric Billet, who led a French delegation including business leaders, investors, and representatives of the GEDIA Group, a major French player in the environmental and renewable energy sectors.
In a press statement, Mr. Hormatallah noted that the meeting enabled the GEDIA Group to present a project covering agriculture, aquaculture, renewable energy, and waste management.
He added that a cooperation agreement was signed regarding a key project within the existing partnership between the Municipality of Dakhla and the City of Dreux, emphasizing that this partnership is materializing through concrete initiatives and projects.
For his part, the Mayor of Dreux stated that the agreement marks the launch of a pioneering initiative focused on the recovery of marine waste and other types of waste, with the long-term objective of producing biogas through sustainable waste valorization.
This initiative also aims to protect the environment, particularly given Dakhla’s unique ecosystem and rich natural resources, he explained.
Meanwhile, Patrick Polge, CEO of the GEDIA Group, highlighted that the project involves an experimental micro-methanization process, producing gas and agricultural fertilizers from organic waste.
The project forms part of the broader development dynamics of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, notably in tourism, agriculture, and marine fisheries, he concluded.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Wilaya of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Abderrazak El Gourji, members of the Dakhla Municipal Council, and heads of external services.
