Morocco Takes Part in the 61st Session of the UN Human Rights Council

The Kingdom of Morocco will participate in the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), scheduled from February 23 to March 31 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

The Moroccan delegation will notably include the Interministerial Delegate for Human Rights, Mohammed El Habib Belkouch, who will deliver the Kingdom’s statement during the plenary session dedicated to government delegations, according to a press release issued by the Interministerial Delegation for Human Rights (DIDH).

On the sidelines of the session, Mr. Belkouch will chair a high-level meeting on the International Network of National Mechanisms for Implementation, Reporting and Follow-up (NMIRFs), for which Morocco serves as coordinator. The meeting, scheduled for February 24, will focus on supporting the Network’s implementation plan and addressing its future challenges.

This high-level event is organized in partnership with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), as well as the permanent missions of Morocco, Brazil, Portugal and Paraguay to the UNHRC, in cooperation with the organization Global Rights.

Discussions will center on reviewing the Network’s achievements, including the adoption of its 2026–2030 action plan and the launch of its virtual platform. The meeting will also renew the call for membership to encourage experience-sharing and strengthen the role of national mechanisms at the state level.

On the margins of the 61st session, the Interministerial Delegate will hold talks with several UN officials and international figures active in the field of human rights. These meetings reflect the DIDH’s openness to international human rights events and Morocco’s commitment to promoting and protecting human rights.

In addition, discussions will address various forms of cooperation with organizations and experts involved in international events scheduled to take place in Morocco this year, further underscoring the Kingdom’s proactive engagement on the global human rights stage.
