General R. M. Anderson, commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), announced that the largest U.S. military exercise on the African continent will take place this year in Morocco, under the name “African Lion”, scheduled for May.

In a recent statement, General Anderson expressed his enthusiasm: “We are particularly excited this year as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary. We are proud that Morocco has been with us from the very beginning, as the first country to recognize America. Holding this exercise here reflects the importance of our strong partnership.”
African Lion, considered one of the most ambitious U.S. Army exercises in Africa, brings together thousands of American troops and international partners. The Moroccan edition aims to strengthen interoperability, operational readiness, and strategic cooperation between U.S. and African forces, while highlighting the historic and privileged relationship between Washington and Rabat.
For Morocco, hosting this exercise represents a major opportunity to showcase its central role in regional security, as well as its ability to collaborate with international partners on defense and stability challenges in the region.
