Direct Social Assistance: 49 Billion Dirhams Mobilized Since the Program’s Launch

A total budget of 49 billion dirhams (MMDH) has been mobilized for the direct social assistance system since its launch in December 2023, announced the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, on Tuesday in Rabat.

Speaking during the oral questions session at the House of Councillors, in response to a question from the Authenticity and Modernity group regarding the outcomes of direct social assistance, the minister specified that 31 MMDH were dedicated to child risk protection allowances, while 17 MMDH were allocated to the lump-sum allowance.

Ms. Fettah indicated that, since last November, the amounts of allowances granted to school-aged children under six have been increased from 200 to 250 dirhams, and from 350 to 375 dirhams for orphaned children. An additional allowance of 100 dirhams is also planned in the case of a child with a disability.

The minister also emphasized that the implementation of the regulatory texts governing the direct social assistance system has been completed, notably through the adoption by the Government Council of the draft decree setting out the conditions and procedures for benefiting from the special allowance provided under this scheme.

In terms of governance, Ms. Fettah recalled the adoption of the Unified Social Register (RSU) and the social indicator, as well as the monitoring and management role carried out by the National Agency for Social Support (ANSS).

She further noted that a pilot experiment concerning the opening of regional territorial offices of the Agency was launched this month, with the aim of strengthening direct interaction with citizens and improving the efficiency and quality of social assistance implementation.
