Fatim-Zahra Ammor: Tourism emerges as a strategic growth engine

Speaking before Parliament, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, announced that Morocco’s tourism sector achieved record-breaking results in 2025, positioning the Kingdom as Africa’s leading tourist destination.

Morocco welcomed nearly 20 million tourists in 2025, marking a 14% increase compared to 2024 and a 53% rise compared to 2019, while global tourism growth remained below 4%.

Foreign currency revenues exceeded MAD 138 billion, up 21% year-on-year, in addition to MAD 48 billion generated by domestic tourism, highlighting tourism’s growing contribution to the national economy.

These achievements are driven by the 2023–2026 Tourism Roadmap, backed by over MAD 6 billion in investment, and based on a new customer-experience-driven model structured around nine thematic sectors and five transversal value chains, tailored to the assets of Morocco’s 12 regions.

On the promotion front, the “Morocco, Land of Light” campaign will continue through 2026, alongside the strengthening of the VisitMorocco brand across digital platforms.

In air transport, Morocco secured 2.5 million travelers through tour operators, launched 80 new air routes, and offered over 12 million airline seats in 2025, with 14.5 million seats expected in 2026.

On the investment side, 43,000 new tourist beds were created, while 91 hotel renovation projects were approved under the CAP Hospitality program. The GO SIYAHA program supported nearly 1,400 tourism projects, out of a total target of 1,700.

Finally, Ammor emphasized human capital development, with 26 new training programs planned for 2026, the certification of 5,000 professionals through the Kafaa program, and strengthened cooperation with vocational training institutions.
