Field operations were carried out on Wednesday in the commune of Al Haouafate, in the Sidi Kacem province, to monitor the health of livestock and provide necessary care to animals affected by recent severe weather.
Organized by the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA), in close coordination with local authorities and Civil Protection, these operations included administering care to animals affected by floods and launching targeted vaccination campaigns.
Cattle were vaccinated against foot-and-mouth disease, while sheep and goats received vaccines against sheep pox and peste des petits ruminants (PPR).
According to ONSSA data, veterinary teams were deployed across all flooded areas, visiting farms directly to assess livestock health, carry out vaccinations, and treat diseases.
Local farmers praised the authorities’ mobilization. Wassim Belqia, a resident of Al Haouafate, highlighted the efforts of local authorities and Civil Protection in facilitating ONSSA veterinarians’ access despite impassable roads.
Driss Belouafi, a farmer and livestock breeder, emphasized that rescuing livestock remains the top priority after severe agricultural damage. He commended the rapid intervention of the authorities and the provision of vaccines, noting that these measures help mitigate the impact of the weather on livestock.
Additionally, the Gharb Regional Office for Agricultural Development (ORMVA) continues, in coordination with local authorities, to distribute free barley and compound feed to affected livestock farmers in Al Haouafate.
Beneficiaries highlighted the effectiveness of these field operations, noting that this solidarity effort arrived at a critical moment to save cattle and sheep. This vital support is expected to help farmers preserve their animals, with hopes that floodwaters will recede soon so life in the region can return to normal.
These operations are part of the broader mobilization by provincial and local authorities to address the consequences of heavy rainfall and rising waters of the Oued Sebou.
