FAO: Morocco Elected Vice-President of the Phytosanitary Measures Commission under IPPC

Morocco was elected vice-president of the Phytosanitary Measures Commission (CPM), a body of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) under the FAO, on Friday in Rome.

Represented by the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA), the Kingdom secured the position during the Commission’s 20th session, held from March 9 to 13 in the Italian capital.

According to Morocco’s Permanent Mission to UN agencies in Rome, this election highlights the international recognition of Morocco’s expertise in plant health and its commitment to multilateral cooperation. It aims to protect phytogenetic resources, enable safe trade exchanges, and contribute to global food security.

As the IPPC’s governing body, the CPM adopts international phytosanitary standards, builds national capacities for sustainable and resilient agriculture, and guides international cooperation to prevent and combat the spread of pests affecting plants and plant products.

Morocco will assume the CPM presidency in 2027, further affirming trust in its leadership. The Kingdom will continue its partnership efforts to implement global standards and safeguard plant health worldwide.
