U.S. military announces blockade of Iranian ports starting Monday

The United States military has announced that it will begin a blockade of Iranian ports starting Monday at 14:00 GMT, according to the U.S. Central Command for the Middle East (CENTCOM).

In a statement posted on the social media platform X, CENTCOM said the measure will be enforced amid the absence of any agreement to end the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The blockade will be applied “without discrimination” to all vessels, regardless of nationality, entering or leaving Iranian ports and coastal areas. This includes ports located in the Persian Gulf—referred to as the “Arabian Gulf” in U.S. administration terminology—as well as the Gulf of Oman.

The announcement comes amid rising regional tensions, raising concerns about potential disruptions to maritime security and international trade routes in one of the world’s most strategic shipping corridors.
