Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch arrived Sunday evening in Nairobi to represent His Majesty King Mohammed VI at the “Africa Forward” Summit and the 4th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Congo Basin Climate Commission (CCBC) and the Blue Fund for the Congo Basin, scheduled for May 11 and 12 in the Kenyan capital.
Upon his arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Akhannouch was welcomed by Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, Geoffrey Ruku, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Abraham Korir Sing’Oei, and Morocco’s Ambassador to Kenya and South Sudan, Abderrazzak Laassel.
The Moroccan delegation attending the summits includes Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali, Minister of Health and Social Protection Amine Tehraoui, and Delegate Minister in charge of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies Karim Zidane.
The delegation also includes a high-level representation from the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), led by its president Chakib Alj, alongside several Moroccan private sector stakeholders.
The “Africa Forward” Summit brings together several heads of state and government to discuss prospects for strengthening partnerships between Africa and France. Discussions will focus on balanced and concrete partnerships, with particular emphasis on cross-investment, economic development, training, and joint responses to global challenges.
Meanwhile, the 4th Summit of the Congo Basin Climate Commission is being held ahead of the donors’ roundtable dedicated to the Blue Fund for the Congo Basin, scheduled for May 26 in Brazzaville. The high-level meeting is expected to endorse the resource mobilization strategy as well as the political and technical documents resulting from the preparatory process.
