Automotive groups Stellantis and Dongfeng Motor Corporation announced on Wednesday their intention to establish a joint venture in Europe aimed at marketing new energy vehicles under the Voyah brand.
In a statement, Stellantis said it had signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with its Chinese partner to expand their long-standing cooperation spanning more than three decades.
The project envisions the creation of a Europe-based entity dedicated to the sales, distribution, production, purchasing and engineering activities related to Dongfeng’s new energy vehicles, initially targeting selected European markets.
The future joint venture would be owned 51% by Stellantis and 49% by Dongfeng.
According to both companies, the new structure will oversee the distribution of Voyah premium electric vehicles across targeted European markets, relying on Stellantis’ extensive commercial network and after-sales expertise.
The partnership is also expected to include joint purchasing and engineering operations designed to leverage Dongfeng’s highly competitive Chinese electric vehicle ecosystem.
The agreement further includes the potential production of Dongfeng new energy vehicles at Stellantis’ Rennes plant in France, in line with European regulations and “Made in Europe” requirements.
The announcement comes shortly after the two groups decided to strengthen their historic Chinese joint venture, Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën Automobile.
Starting in 2027, the venture is expected to manufacture new energy vehicle models for Peugeot and Jeep at its Wuhan facility for both the Chinese market and international exports.
