Located in Rehamna Province, close to Marrakech and along a strategic corridor connecting the city with Morocco’s major markets, Sidi Bou Othmane is gradually emerging as a more significant industrial location. The area is no longer limited to its role as an economic extension of Marrakech; it is increasingly becoming a destination for manufacturing and processing activities with growing added value.
This transformation is being driven by a succession of investments in packaging, plastics, medical devices, cosmetics and other industrial activities. The industrial zone is one of the main pillars of this momentum, offering capacity to accommodate investors looking for industrial land close to Marrakech.
One of the most significant projects is AMG Packaging, a subsidiary of the Italian Pro-Gest group, which began construction in April 2023 of a paper and cardboard packaging manufacturing plant with an announced investment of MAD 266 million, on a 10-hectare site. The project was also expected to create 170 jobs and manufacture packaging products mainly for the agricultural, restaurant and storage sectors.
A Clearly Emerging Industrial Diversification
This momentum continued with the establishment of INPHAB – Laboratoires Institut Pharmaceutique Bio, which has developed a new manufacturing site in the Sidi Bou Othmane industrial zone since 2023. The company produces, among other products, medical devices and cosmetics, and reports holding NM ISO 13485 certification for medical devices and NM ISO 22716 certification relating to good manufacturing practices for cosmetic products. Its manufacturing facility is located at 243, Sidi Bou Othmane Industrial Zone. This investment contributes to diversifying the local industrial base toward activities more closely associated with quality standards, regulation, innovation and higher added value. It also reflects an important shift in Sidi Bou Othmane’s industrial profile, as the area is increasingly attracting activities that go beyond conventional manufacturing and extend into more strategic sectors.
Health Sovereignty Gains a Foothold in Sidi Bou Othmane
This transformation is particularly visible in the medical-device sector. On January 16, 2026, IM MEDICARE inaugurated an industrial facility in Sidi Bou Othmane specializing in the manufacture of hypodermic and vaccination syringes. The project represents an investment of MAD 85 million, with 70 direct jobs expected and an announced production capacity of 450 million syringes per year. Morocco’s Ministry of Industry and Trade considers the project a contribution to strengthening national sovereignty in the medical-device sector, with ambitions to expand into African markets. The facility therefore gives Sidi Bou Othmane a new strategic dimension: the ability to host industries responding to national priorities while integrating into African value chains.
Plastics Manufacturing Strengthens the Industrial Ecosystem
On July 7, 2026, Sidi Bou Othmane reached another milestone with the inauguration by Plastikpack Maroc of an industrial facility specializing in plastic injection molding. The project represents an investment of MAD 150 million and is expected to create 200 direct jobs. The facility includes a 3,000-square-meter production workshop and approximately 7,000 square meters of warehouse space, while new production lines will expand the range of products toward higher-value-added solutions. This project strengthens Sidi Bou Othmane’s position in plastics and packaging, complementing the activities developed by AMG Packaging and the growing needs of the food-processing, agricultural and manufacturing industries.
At Least MAD 501 Million in Documented Investment
The projects for which publicly available investment figures have been identified — AMG Packaging, IM MEDICARE and Plastikpack Maroc — already represent at least MAD 501 million in cumulative investment, excluding the INPHAB project, for which no clearly published investment amount was identified in the sources reviewed. This figure therefore does not necessarily represent the total amount invested in Sidi Bou Othmane, but it provides a concrete indication of the area’s growing attractiveness. More importantly, these investments reveal significant diversification: paper and cardboard packaging, medical devices, plastic injection molding, cosmetics and healthcare products. This combination could gradually encourage the emergence of a network of suppliers, subcontractors and specialized service providers around the industrial companies already operating in the area.
Industrial Land as a Competitive Advantage
One of Sidi Bou Othmane’s main strengths is its ability to offer an industrial environment where companies can secure suitable space for production and storage. This is particularly important given the growing land pressure around Marrakech. For investors, the next challenge will be to provide a sufficiently structured industrial land offer supported by infrastructure, utilities, services, logistics and streamlined administrative procedures.
Sidi Bou Othmane’s proximity to Marrakech represents another advantage, giving companies access to a large pool of consumers, services, skills and business partners.

The next stage will be decisive: moving from a collection of individual projects toward a genuine industrial ecosystem. The simultaneous presence of players in packaging, plastics and medical devices already creates favorable conditions for developing local value chains. Demand for industrial maintenance, transport, storage, packaging, plastic injection, components, industrial IT, security, specialized cleaning, technical training and business services could generate new opportunities for microenterprises and SMEs. Sidi Bou Othmane could also develop agro-industrial and processing activities linked to the agricultural potential of Rehamna Province, as well as logistics platforms serving Marrakech and regional markets.
An Industrial Hub Emerging Around Marrakech
The challenge extends beyond the municipality itself. Sidi Bou Othmane could become an industrial complement to Marrakech, hosting production activities requiring larger spaces while strengthening the industrial and logistics functions of the Marrakech economic area. Existing investments demonstrate that the territory is beginning to acquire genuine industrial credibility.
The arrival of IM MEDICARE in medical devices and the expansion of Plastikpack into plastic injection molding in 2026 are particularly strong signals of this transformation. If this momentum is supported by competitive industrial land, efficient infrastructure, reliable utility connections, a qualified workforce and stronger investor support, Sidi Bou Othmane could gradually establish itself as one of the new industrial, agro-industrial and logistics hubs of Marrakech-Safi.
The real challenge ahead will be to attract suppliers and subcontractors around existing companies, strengthen cooperation among manufacturers and transform individual investments into local value chains capable of producing, creating jobs and exporting.
By 2030, this strategy could make Sidi Bou Othmane a strategic industrial territory serving Marrakech and Rehamna while contributing more broadly to the competitiveness of the Marrakech-Safi region.
