Morocco continues to attract Asian manufacturers seeking competitive production platforms connected to international markets. With an intelligent tyre factory worth nearly $300 million planned for Tanger Tech, China’s Guizhou Tire is adding another strategic link to Morocco’s automotive ecosystem and further demonstrating the growing presence of Chinese manufacturing companies in the Kingdom.
Guizhou Tire’s board has approved plans to build an intelligent tyre manufacturing plant in the Mohammed VI Tanger Tech City. The investment is estimated at approximately $298.72 million, including around $293 million for construction. The facility is designed to produce 6 million semi-steel radial tyres per year. Construction is expected to take approximately two years and the plant will become Guizhou Tire’s second overseas production base after Vietnam. The products will be marketed mainly under the Advance and Samson brands.
The choice of Tangier has clear strategic advantages. The region offers well-developed industrial and logistics infrastructure and is located close to the Tanger Med port complex, providing export-oriented manufacturers with efficient access to international markets. For Guizhou Tire, establishing a production base in Morocco will bring manufacturing closer to European and other global markets while optimising its international production network. More importantly, the project illustrates a change in the pattern of Chinese investment in Morocco: companies are no longer simply exporting products to the Moroccan market, but are directly establishing production capacity in the Kingdom to serve several international markets.
Guizhou Tire’s arrival will further deepen Morocco’s automotive value chain. With vehicle manufacturing, automotive components, wiring systems, electronic components and electric-vehicle battery projects expanding, tyres represent another important element of the local industrial ecosystem. Once operating at full capacity, the plant will achieve significant production volumes and strengthen Morocco’s domestic automotive supply capabilities. The project also underlines Morocco’s growing role as an industrial and logistics platform serving Europe, Africa and other international markets. Tanger Tech is gradually becoming one of the clearest examples of Morocco’s ambition to turn “Made in Morocco” into a globally competitive manufacturing platform.
