Joint search operations conducted by the Royal Armed Forces and the US armed forces have led to the recovery of the body of the second American soldier who had been missing since May 2 near a cliff in Cap Draa.
According to a statement released by the General Staff of the FAR, the body was located at around 4:40 p.m. and recovered at approximately 6:07 p.m., about 500 meters from the site of the incident.
The search efforts involved major land, sea and air resources, with the participation of FAR units, Civil Protection teams and US military personnel.
Preliminary findings confirmed the identity of the deceased as Mariyah Symone Collington, a member of the US armed forces.
The body was transferred to the morgue of Moulay El Hassan Military Hospital in Guelmim in accordance with established procedures.
A military ceremony was also held at Guelmim military airport to pay tribute to the two deceased American soldiers.
The bodies were repatriated overnight on May 12 aboard a US military aircraft, the statement added.
