Chinese Plywood: Anti-Dumping Duty Remains at 76%.

Morocco is maintaining the 76% anti-dumping duty on plywood imports originating from China. The measure, extended until August 28, 2027, is intended to protect domestic production.

A new joint order issued by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Ministry of Economy and Finance sets out the procedures for implementing the measure. The 76% rate was increased in September 2023, from the previous 25%. The measure applies to products originating from China and now covers 46 tariff headings.

The decision forms part of Morocco’s trade defense policy and efforts to protect domestic industrial sectors. Plywood is used in several industries, including furniture, construction and various wood-related activities.

Maintaining the anti-dumping duty is intended to provide Moroccan producers with more balanced competitive conditions in the domestic market. At the same time, the authorities are continuing to monitor imports and adjust trade policy instruments.

The extension until 2027 also provides greater visibility for domestic operators. The measure illustrates Morocco’s use of trade defense instruments to support the competitiveness of certain local industries.

Importers will continue to have to factor this level of taxation into their procurement costs.
