Côte d’Ivoire Targets Third Place Among Africa’s Gold Producers

Côte d’Ivoire is accelerating the development of its mining industry and aims to become Africa’s third-largest gold producer.

Over the past decade, the country’s annual gold output has increased from 18 tonnes to 62 tonnes in 2025, according to the figures provided. The government is targeting production of 100 tonnes within five years, supported by new mines, international investment and the development of large-scale industrial projects.

This expansion marks a significant change in the sector’s scale and is expected to increase its contribution to exports, public revenues and domestic economic activity.

Major investments reshape the mining industry

Côte d’Ivoire currently has 19 operating mines: 13 gold mines, four manganese mines, one bauxite mine and one nickel mine. The country was also ranked the leading mining jurisdiction in West Africa by the Fraser Institute in 2022, 2023 and 2024, according to the figures cited.

Meanwhile, Perseus Mining is investing $170 million to develop underground operations at the Yaouré mine, a technical expansion intended to extend the site’s operating potential and mine life.

Endeavour Mining has also confirmed the development of the Assafou mine, representing a planned investment of $1 billion. The project is expected to produce 257,000 ounces annually over 16 years, with commissioning scheduled for 2028.
