FiveNines plans to develop a data centre with an announced capacity of 20 megawatts near Casablanca.
The project remains at the initial design stage and forms part of Morocco’s broader development of digital infrastructure to support cloud computing and artificial intelligence applications.
Data centres play a critical role in the digital economy by providing storage, hosting and computing capacity for businesses, institutions and digital service providers.
Digital infrastructure to support artificial intelligence
The growing adoption of generative AI is increasing demand for computing power, data storage and processing capabilities. A 20 MW facility could help meet part of this demand, subject to the project’s implementation and the availability of the necessary resources.
The Casablanca region is a potential location of interest given its concentration of economic, financial and technology activities. However, developing such a facility requires addressing several challenges, including electricity supply, cooling systems, connectivity, security and energy efficiency. No definitive commissioning schedule has been established at this stage.
The proposal nevertheless illustrates the opportunities for expanding Morocco’s digital infrastructure to support business digital transformation and the adoption of artificial intelligence.
