The Government Council approved, on Wednesday, a draft decree establishing new conditions and procedures for setting the public retail price (PRP) of medicines manufactured locally or imported into Morocco.
Presented by the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Draft Decree No. 2.25.631 amends and supplements Decree No. 2-13-852 of December 18, 2013, which regulates the pricing of medicines.
According to the government, the reform aims to improve citizens’ access to medicines by reducing their retail prices, thereby easing the financial burden on patients, including those covered by the Mandatory Health Insurance (AMO) scheme.
The decree is also expected to strengthen the financial sustainability of the Mandatory Health Insurance system by reducing pharmaceutical expenditures. In addition, it seeks to enhance the competitiveness of Morocco’s pharmaceutical industry, support its continued development, and reinforce the Kingdom’s pharmaceutical sovereignty.
The Government Council also postponed the examination of Draft Decree No. 2.26.549, which concerns the implementation of Article 30 of Law No. 27.26 amending and supplementing the Code on Medicines and Pharmacy.
