The third edition of Global Food Week (GFW) opened on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi, bringing together government officials, policymakers, international companies and stakeholders from the agricultural and food sectors from 92 countries, including Morocco.
The event is part of a strategy aimed at supporting national initiatives and plans related to agricultural sustainability, the use of advanced technological innovations and quality investment.
It also seeks to consolidate a sustainable food security system, support national industries across various sectors, strengthen their competitiveness and facilitate their access to new markets.
Organized in strategic partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Global Food Week brings together policymakers, experts from international organizations, representatives of economic and development institutions, private-sector stakeholders, investors, researchers and innovation actors.
During this edition, participants will examine the main challenges and opportunities facing the global food system. They will also review solutions, policies and technologies capable of accelerating the transition toward more sustainable, resilient and efficient food systems.
The GFW program includes the Global Food Security Summit, the fifth edition of the Abu Dhabi International Food Exhibition and the 12th edition of the Abu Dhabi Dates Exhibition, one of the leading events specializing in the dates industry in the Middle East and North Africa.
This edition also features the launch of the first Abu Dhabi Honey Forum, organized by the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority in cooperation with the International Federation of Beekeepers’ Associations (Apimondia).
The forum constitutes the largest specialized scientific gathering on beekeeping and honey production in the Middle East and North Africa.
Morocco is taking part in this international event, which runs until October 8, through its participation in the Abu Dhabi International Food Exhibition.
The Kingdom is represented by a pavilion organized by the Agricultural Development Agency (ADA), bringing together 25 groups operating in the local products sector.
Morocco is also participating in the Abu Dhabi Dates Exhibition with six stands.
At the 2026 edition of Global Food Week, discussions will focus on the role of science, technology and innovation, youth engagement, and financing and investment mechanisms to accelerate the transition toward more efficient, resilient and sustainable agricultural and food systems.
GFW is also strengthening its position as a global platform for dialogue and cooperation in food, agriculture and sustainability.
This momentum is supported by the participation of several specialized international organizations and initiatives, notably the FAO and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), within an international dialogue focused on the future of food security and the transformation of agricultural and food systems.
In this context, the event is hosting a WOAH workshop for Gulf Cooperation Council and African countries, as well as the FAO’s international youth leadership program “YalaFast” and the FAO Policy Council.
This year’s edition is also marked by an increase in exhibition space and the number of exhibitors, alongside the launch of new activities for the first time.
The exhibition area has been expanded to 42,000 square meters, while the number of participating companies and brands has reached 2,580.
