Trump announces Xi Jinping visit to Washington by the end of the year

US President Donald Trump announced that his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, is expected to visit the White House toward the end of 2026, amid bilateral relations marked by both strategic cooperation and economic rivalry.

“He will come to the White House, yes, toward the end of the year,” President Trump said in an interview aired Sunday on NBC. He stressed the importance of dialogue between Washington and Beijing, describing the United States and China as “the two most powerful countries in the world” and stating that they maintain “very good relations.”

The US president also recalled that he is scheduled to travel to China in April, a visit that could pave the way for this high-level meeting. These exchanges come at a time of ongoing tensions over trade, technology, and geopolitical issues, particularly regarding tariffs, market access, and artificial intelligence.

On the domestic front, Donald Trump defended his economic record, pointing to low inflation and what he described as strong growth. He said the United States is collecting hundreds of billions of dollars in tariff revenues, arguing that the country is now “more prosperous than ever.”

The US president also highlighted investments directed toward the artificial intelligence sector, which he considers strategic for American competitiveness. According to him, these investments are expected to create many jobs and strengthen US technological leadership in the face of growing competition from China.
