Amid National Water Program Meeting, Nizar Baraka Warns of Strong Pressure on Morocco’s Water Resources

On the sidelines of the Steering Committee meeting of the National Program for Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation, Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka warned about the intense pressure on Morocco’s water resources, particularly during the summer months marked by heatwaves.

The minister noted that the meeting provided an opportunity to assess the current situation and implement emergency measures, especially for affected rural areas, including the reinforcement of tanker fleets and the deployment of temporary solutions.

He also highlighted progress on major structural projects, such as inter-basin water transfers, accelerated dam construction, and the imminent launch of seawater desalination plants, aiming to reach 1.7 billion cubic meters of desalinated water by 2030, in line with the High Royal Directives.
