Heavy rainfall: Oued El Makhazine dam exceeds 140% capacity

The heavy rainfall recorded in recent weeks across several regions of Morocco has significantly boosted the country’s water reserves, particularly in the northern part of the Kingdom.

In this context, Sofiane Afir, Head of Water Resources Management at the Loukkos River Basin Agency, stated that the Oued El Makhazine dam has reached a storage level of 945 million cubic meters, representing an exceptional filling rate of 140%.

Despite this record level, the official reassured that the dam remains in good operational and safety condition, thanks to effective water management and regulation measures.

This situation highlights the direct impact of intense rainfall episodes on water storage levels, at a time when Morocco continues to face growing challenges related to climate variability and water stress.
