Morocco – Croatia: Strengthening Parliamentary Cooperation at the House of Councillors

Strengthening parliamentary cooperation mechanisms between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Croatia was at the center of talks held Thursday at the headquarters of the House of Councillors in Rabat.

The meeting brought together the Chairman of the Morocco–Croatia Friendship Group, Ismail Alaoui, and the Chairman of the Economy Committee at the Croatian Parliament, Ivica Mesić, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom leading a parliamentary delegation. The talks were held in the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Morocco, Jasna Mileta.

According to a statement by the House of Councillors, the meeting provided an opportunity to examine prospects for developing bilateral relations, particularly in the fields of economy and investment, in light of the positive momentum characterizing ties between the two countries.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Alaoui stressed that the visit reflects the continuity of constructive parliamentary dialogue and the shared determination to further promote bilateral relations. He recalled that Moroccan–Croatian relations are rooted in a solid historical foundation, marked by the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992 and strengthened by the signing in 2019 of a comprehensive long-term partnership agreement.

He also highlighted the structural reforms undertaken by the Kingdom under the leadership of Mohammed VI, which have positioned Morocco as a competitive economic platform and a strategic gateway to Africa, notably through the adoption of the new Investment Charter.

In this regard, Mr. Alaoui underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation in priority sectors, particularly renewable energy, including green hydrogen, as well as increasing trade volume. He called for the implementation of the recommendations of the Morocco–Croatia Economic Forum and for addressing logistical constraints, notably by considering the establishment of a direct air link between Casablanca and Zagreb.

He also commended the positive stance of the Republic of Croatia in support of Morocco’s territorial integrity, as reaffirmed in the Joint Declaration signed in 2025, in line with the international momentum and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

For his part, Mr. Mesić stated that his visit to the Kingdom, on the occasion of the Croatian Economic Forum, represents an opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, energy, tourism, agriculture and infrastructure. He highlighted the significant potential and promising partnership prospects between the two countries.

The Croatian lawmaker emphasized the importance attached by the Croatian Parliament to parliamentary diplomacy and international cooperation, expressing his country’s willingness to institutionalize dialogue with the House of Councillors and to intensify the exchange of expertise in the shared interest of both friendly peoples.
