Trump highlights strength of the U.S. economy in State of the Union address

President Donald Trump emphasized Tuesday evening the strength of the U.S. economy, presenting these results as concrete proof of the measures implemented since his return to power a year ago.

“This evening, after just one year, I can say with dignity and pride that we have achieved an unprecedented transformation and a historic turnaround,” Trump said before both chambers of the U.S. Congress, stating that the nation is “back, greater, better, and stronger than ever.”

The president focused his speech on what he called the “American renaissance,” even referring to “America’s golden age.”

According to him, current economic and social indicators signal a decisive turning point. “Today, our borders are secure. Our morale is restored. Inflation is plummeting. Incomes are rising rapidly. The economy is booming like never before, our armed forces and police are in place, and America is respected again,” he stressed during the marathon address.

With a duration of 1 hour and 47 minutes, this became the longest State of the Union address in U.S. history, surpassing the 1 hour 20 minutes speech delivered in 2000 by Democrat Bill Clinton.

Beyond macroeconomic performance, Trump also highlighted social priorities in his second term, particularly in healthcare. He praised the new initiative “TrumpRX,” aimed at lowering prescription drug prices, presenting it as a direct response to the “crushing costs” of healthcare for American households.

In this context, he noted that his administration had significantly reduced the price of several treatments through a “most favored nation” policy, aligning U.S. prices with the lowest levels observed abroad. “I have taken prescription drug prices from the highest in the world to the lowest,” he asserted.

From the opening minutes, the president also addressed immigration, a central theme of his policy, claiming that his administration had reduced to “zero” the number of undocumented foreigners admitted to the U.S. over the past nine months.

“We now have the strongest and safest border in U.S. history, by far,” he added, noting that “the deadly flow of fentanyl across our border has fallen by 56% in one year, a record.”
