France now has the official dates for its next presidential election. The vote will take place in two rounds, in line with the country’s usual electoral system. Citizens will head to the polls in April and May 2027 to elect the next President of the Republic.
The dates were set during a Council of Ministers meeting chaired on Wednesday by French President Emmanuel Macron. They were established by the Ministry of the Interior following consultations with representatives of all political parties, according to the Council’s report.
The first round is scheduled for Sunday, April 18, 2027, while the second round will take place on Sunday, May 2, 2027.
In France’s overseas territories — including Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Martin, and French Polynesia — voters will cast their ballots on Saturday to account for time differences.
In France, the President of the Republic is elected by direct universal suffrage for a five-year term, renewable once consecutively. The election uses a two-round system: the candidate who obtains an absolute majority of valid votes is declared elected.
