U.S. President Donald Trump has thanked His Majesty King Mohammed VI after the Tiznit-Dakhla Expressway was officially renamed the “Donald Trump Highway.” In a message shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump expressed his appreciation for what he described as a “great honor,” highlighting the symbolic importance of the decision.
Stretching approximately 1,055 kilometers, the Tiznit-Dakhla Expressway is one of Morocco’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. Connecting Tiznit, Guelmim, Laayoune, and Dakhla, the highway was developed as part of the New Development Model for the Southern Provinces, launched in 2015 under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
Designed to improve connectivity, facilitate trade, and boost regional economic growth, the expressway also enhances road safety and strengthens links between Morocco’s northern and southern regions.
Supporting Economic Growth and Regional Integration
The expressway is expected to play a key role in the economic transformation of Morocco’s southern provinces. It complements major development initiatives, including the future Dakhla Atlantic Port, while reinforcing Morocco’s commercial links with Africa.
Beyond its transportation function, the project reflects Morocco’s long-term vision for sustainable development, regional integration, and investment in strategic infrastructure.
