Cartier Saada: U.S. Market Slowdown Weighs on Activity

Moroccan food producer Cartier Saada has started its 2026–2027 financial year under challenging conditions, with the slowdown in the U.S. market weighing heavily on its activity.

The company generated MAD 54.2 million in revenue during the first quarter, covering the period from April 1 to June 30, 2026, compared with MAD 69.6 million a year earlier. This represents a significant decline in activity. Exports accounted for 97.72% of total quarterly revenue, confirming the company’s strong exposure to international markets.

U.S. market under pressure

According to Cartier Saada, the decline was mainly driven by weaker sales in the U.S. market, where competitive pressure on prices has intensified.

The decline in global prices has enabled some customers to source products more cheaply from highly competitive producing countries. This has encouraged buyers to prioritize price considerations, putting pressure on the volumes ordered from Cartier Saada.

The situation highlights the vulnerability of export-oriented companies to changes in international prices and competitive conditions.

Logistics add to the pressure

The commercial difficulties have been compounded by international logistical disruptions. Geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran, as well as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, have disrupted international supply chains and increased transportation costs.

Cartier Saada has also reported exceptional weather conditions affecting the Port of Casablanca since the beginning of 2026. Repeated closures and congestion at the port have continued to affect export lead times.

Continued investment

Despite the difficult environment, Cartier Saada invested MAD 1.1 million during the quarter, mainly in the renewal of handling and production equipment.

These investments are intended to improve productivity, operational efficiency and product quality.

The evolution of the U.S. market will remain a key factor for Cartier Saada during the remainder of the 2026–2027 financial year.

For Moroccan export-oriented companies, the situation demonstrates the importance of diversifying markets, strengthening competitiveness, controlling logistics costs and increasing the value added of exported products.

Cartier Saada’s first-quarter performance therefore provides an important indicator of the challenges facing Morocco’s food-processing exporters in an increasingly competitive global environment.
