Morocco and Jordan have strengthened their judicial cooperation with the signing of an extradition agreement aimed at reinforcing legal coordination between the two countries.
The agreement was signed in Rabat by Morocco’s Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, and Jordan’s Minister of Justice, Bassam Samir Chahada Al-Talhouni, during a meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the judicial and legal fields.
The new convention establishes a legal framework for extradition procedures between Morocco and Jordan. It is intended to facilitate cooperation between the competent authorities when individuals sought by the justice system of one of the two countries are located in the other.
The agreement also reflects the two countries’ shared commitment to strengthening judicial cooperation and addressing cross-border crime through closer coordination between their judicial institutions.
During the signing ceremony, the two ministers highlighted the importance of developing legal and institutional mechanisms capable of supporting closer cooperation between Rabat and Amman.
Moroccan and Jordanian officials also stressed the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries, describing the new agreement as an additional step toward consolidating cooperation in the justice sector.
The extradition convention adds to the existing framework of Moroccan-Jordanian judicial cooperation and is expected to provide a clearer mechanism for handling extradition requests and related judicial procedures.
The agreement comes as part of broader efforts by Morocco and Jordan to deepen bilateral cooperation across several areas and strengthen coordination between their institutions.
