Infantino had already announced his intention to run for another term in April during the FIFA Congress in Vancouver. The latest confirmation comes as the president faces growing criticism over his leadership and several controversial decisions made by the organisation.
The announcement comes at a particularly challenging time for FIFA. Several football confederations have raised concerns about Infantino’s management and the way certain major projects have been handled.
One of the main sources of tension has been the FIFA Forward Enterprise project, which sparked concern and criticism among several stakeholders in world football. The initiative was eventually abandoned, increasing pressure on FIFA’s leadership.
