The commitment was expressed during a meeting between Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis and Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, who is on a working visit to Greece.
The visit is particularly significant as it marks the first visit by a Moroccan foreign minister to Greece at this level in more than three decades. It reflects the shared willingness of Rabat and Athens to strengthen political dialogue and open a new chapter in their bilateral partnership.
The two ministers welcomed the excellent relations between the two countries and reaffirmed their determination to intensify political dialogue, increase high-level visits and deepen consultations on bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest.
The two sides agreed to translate this renewed momentum into greater diversification and revitalization of bilateral cooperation.
With a forthcoming visit by George Gerapetritis to Morocco in prospect, the discussions focused on preparing a roadmap to support this new phase, particularly in the areas of economic and trade cooperation, investment, green energy, defense, tourism and maritime transport, as well as culture, justice and consular affairs.
To give concrete substance to this ambition, the two ministers stressed the need to accelerate the work of bilateral cooperation mechanisms and enhance their effectiveness.
They also underlined the importance of updating and expanding the legal framework governing relations between the two countries.
This new phase in the Morocco-Greece partnership also forms part of the broader relationship between Morocco and the European Union.
In this regard, the two ministers highlighted the positive role played by Greece in strengthening Morocco-EU relations. They also welcomed the outcomes of the 15th session of the Morocco-EU Association Council and the launch of the new Pact for the Mediterranean.
The two officials also praised the quality of cooperation between Morocco and Greece within international organizations, highlighting the constructive role played by both countries at the regional and international levels in promoting stability, security and peace.
They further noted the convergence of their efforts in combating terrorism and irregular migration, reaffirming their shared commitment to addressing common challenges in the Mediterranean.
