Kenya is preparing a major industrial project worth more than 12 billion shillings in Jomvu, Mombasa County, with nearly 8,000 direct jobs expected.
The project is being developed by GulfCap Group in partnership with DP World. The agreement is expected to pave the way for the establishment of a Special Economic Zone covering approximately 535 acres, or nearly 217 hectares. The announced investment exceeds $100 million. According to the promoters, 67 companies have already expressed interest in participating in the development of the site. The project targets manufacturing, logistics and export-oriented activities. The development is expected to strengthen Mombasa’s position as an industrial and logistics hub on Kenya’s coast.
An Export-Oriented Industrial Zone
According to the promoters, the hub is expected to create 7,972 direct jobs. The objective is to transform Jomvu into an integrated platform combining industrial production, logistics and international trade. The partnership with DP World adds a major maritime and logistics dimension to the project, given Mombasa’s role as Kenya’s main port hub. The government of President William Ruto is seeking to increase local manufacturing, attract industrial companies and expand exports. The project is also expected to strengthen the attractiveness of Kenya’s coastal region for international investors.
